eHealth Exchange and CRISP Partner for QHIN Status Under TEFCA
Congratulations to our client and close colleagues over at CRISP Shared Services for being the first HIE to state their intent to participate with the eHealth Exchange planned Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN). QHINs are an important part of the ONC’s Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). With CRISP’s participation, eHealth Exchange’s QHIN would gain five statewide health information exchanges. You can read the full press release here.
eHealth Exchange will apply to become a QHIN when the application period opens this fall. If the Regional Coordinating Entity (RCE) designates eHealth Exchange as a QHIN, the network will assist nationwide interoperability by connecting to other QHINs. Having CRISP Shared Services as a participant, with their five associated HIEs adds significant weight to the eHealth Exchange application.
Zen’s leadership attended the recent Civitas Conference which had many HIEs in attendance. As heard at the conference, some HIEs remain concerned about the “unintended consequences” of TEFCA on regional / state HIEs who have already invested huge efforts in connecting their communities over the last decade or more. However, CRISP has often been a leader in embracing new national efforts to further enhance data exchange and it is not surprising that they are the first out of the gate to announce their support for eHealth Exchange QHIN efforts.
As CRISP gears up to support eHealth Exchange QHIN efforts, we are delighted to have them as a client using Zen’s Stargate solution as their Initiating Gateway for both Carequality and eHealth exchange queries.
